Uniforms - missing items

Parents,

If your boy received all the pieces of his uniform you can disregard this email.

We tried to size up all the kids at evaluations but it seems we always have some issues when the day comes to hand out the stuff.  Hats were the biggest problem as the sizing changed on us (went from 5 different sizes to 3).  Some of you are missing pants and some are missing shirts.

The ETA for most stuff is this Friday.  Jersey shirts may take an extra few days as they have to put the numbers and lettering on them.  Priority is being given to kids that have early tournaments.

Kathy Hall will be running around making sure you get any missing items ASAP.  She will either get the stuff to your coach or to you at a practice. If you would rather arrange for a pickup contact Kathy at her email: kchmsu@yahoo.com

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Reminders & Announcments

Uniform Distribution Day – Is this Saturday the 23rd at the Holt Jr. High School.  Check the website for your time slot.

HJRB Merchandise – All merchandise orders must be received by April 27th to ensure it is ready for pickup before games start.

Asst. Coach Shirts – Asst. Coaches, your head coach should have sent you a link to order either a free t-shirt or wicking or polo shirt at a discounted price.  These are the same shirts that are available via our store however they will have “Coach Lastname” printed on them.   If you didn’t get this special link ask  your head coach or email me.  Please get these ordered ASAP if you have not!!!

Coaches scheduling meeting tonight – at least one coach from every team should attend this meeting.  It is at Mason Middle School in Room 22 at 6:30pm.  Team schedules will be finalized at this meeting.   Coaches – email me a copy of your schedule ASAP (by Friday would be nice!).  Once we get the game dates plugged in we can start scheduling practice times in the empty slots.

PONY division assignments - It appears that the Mid-Michigan Pony League website now has all the teams entered into their respective divisions.  See them at: http://www.masonpony.org – click on STANDINGS for a quick view of all the teams.

Elliott Field Project – The fields look great, this rain has actually been good for them.  New fencing will start going in next week.  Delhi will be putting in new benches for us and providing new home plates and possibly new bases.  If we need any volunteers for anything I’ll let you know.

New concession stand – Work is also underway to get the concession stand operational.  Last year the stand was at the U14 field, this year we will be using the building near the U12 and U10 fields.  Profits from last year’s stand are being reinvested into this new stand.  Last year we borrowed a lot of stuff.  This year we have a brand new popcorn maker, snow cone machine, roasters, coffee maker, thermos for hot coco, a new freezer, etc.  Plus the building needed some TLC and is getting it.  Thanks to our VP Tom Barger for heading this up!

Pitching Machine – We have also added a pitching machine to our arsenal.  We only have one for now so it will be in high demand but coaches can reserve it via our scheduling system.

The season is almost upon us!  I may be the “voice” but there are many others helping with all of our season startup tasks.

Here is the HJRB Board and committee members:

Elliott Project - Friday 4-15-11 Status

Parents,
Thanks to Royal Lawn & Landscape's Bobcat and the dump truck I borrowed we made great process today with just a minimal crew.  There was a WHOLE LOT of sod that needed to be removed and if we did it with just trailers like I was originally planning I think it would have been a two day job and a lot of sore backs!  We started at 1pm today and finished around 7:30pm, just as some sprinkles started.  We were able to get all the sod scooped up into the truck and then we dumped it at an area designated by Delhi Parks and Rec about one mile away.  It took about 16 trips for both fields.  We also got the new dirt delivered and spread out via the Bobcat and the small work crew.

So at this point we are in very good shape.  My main goal today was to get the sod removed before it got soaked with rain, we did than plus we spread the new dirt!!  Tomorrow I will be out there around 8am to meet with the Bobcat operator but I don't think I need any help.  If it isn't raining hard, the Bobcat operator may attach his tiller attachment and blend the old and new dirt better.  We still need to run the dirt compactor however that doesn't have to be tomorrow, it can even be in a few days to a week after this spell of rainy days is over.  We may need more dirt... not sure yet.

Thanks again to all that offered their help for Saturday.  That original plan is obviously no longer needed and thus I really don't need anyone on Saturday at all.   I may only be out there for an hour or two.

Thanks to the crew that was able to come out on short notice today:
Mike Thelen
Lupe Mena
Jason Parks plus Dylan, Chase, and Noah
Bill and Kelly Cogswell (labor + pizza!)
Jesse Maysonet
Chad Baldwin

Elliott Project - Update

Thanks to everyone that responded yesterday, I received a lot more response after my guilt trip J.

However, due to the fact that the forecast is not changing to our favor it looks like from about 8pm tonight and all day Saturday we will be getting a lot of rain.  Even if there is no rain on Sunday the dirt will be muddy and heavy.

Royal Lawn & Landscape is donating their Bobcat and operator.  Once they are finished with their job today they are going to start this afternoon ASAP.  Plus I have secured a small dump truck from work that will pretty eliminate the need for a work crew at the dump site.  After meeting with Dave Thurston from Royal last night, he thinks it may not take too long to get the sod removed (especially with the Bobcat and a dump truck).

So… I only really need a handful of helpers TODAY if possible.  I don’t have an exact ETA for the bobcat but I plan on being out there by 2:30pm today.  I’ve also asked that the baseball-dirt dump be moved up a little earlier (it was scheduled for 4pm).

Basically I want to get as much done today as possibly as  Saturday and the following week looks to be very wet.

What I need today ,if you can make it out, is just a few people with rakes and shovels.  If time permits we will need someone to run a compactor – probably later around 5pm.

For those that did email me yesterday or this morning offering to help on Saturday, I probably won’t respond to each of you individually since sending this update.  But I do appreciate all the offers of help.

If you can help today, you can either email me or just show up.   Or call my cell phone after 2:30pm if you want to know if we need any more helpers.  Cell = 202-3095.

Thanks

Elliott Field Conversion - Satuday April 16

Parents,
Okay... I have confirmation that the sod cutter can get the sod cut this week.  We had a lot of pledges of labor last year for this project, now it is D-Day.  Anyone is welcome to help, especially those new families from U10 that will be using these new fields.

Here is the plan:
  1. I will need at least two or three volunteers with trailers to haul the sod.  Flatbed or mid/low railing.  Plus a vehicle to pull them of course.  These trailers will get dirty and could get scratched.  We will have a Bobcat out there to scoop up the sod to put onto the trailers.   If you are not available to help but have a trailer we can borrow please let me know that also incase we come up short.
  2. We will need volunteers at the dumping location to unload the sod from the trailers.  This will most likely be by hand.  The dumping location is off Pine Tree road near Valhalla Park (provided by Delhi Parks & Rec).
  3. We will have piles of "baseball" dirt pre-delivered to fill in where the grass was removed.  We will use the Bobcat to move most of that around but will need volunteers with rakes to help smooth it out.
  4. We will hopefully have a tamper or two out there also, we will need volunteers to take turns operating the tamper(s).
  5. If someone could purchase drinks and have them available in coolers at Elliott and at the dump site that would be great (we will reimburse expenses).
  6. We will need a few volunteers to deliver lunch to both sites around 12:30pm (we will reimburse expenses).  This could be pizza, or grilled hot dogs, whatever you want.
What you should bring:
  • Wear old clothing and bring work gloves.
  • A rake and a shovel
  • Any other tools you think may be helpful for such a project to at least have on hand in your vehicle.
We will start at 10am Saturday April 16th.  Meet at the concession stand building out by the fields (Elliott #3 and #4).  We will plan on working from 10am to 5:30pm.  You can work all day if you want but I'd like to fill the following shifts:
10:00am-12:30pm   Shift 1
12:30pm - 3:00pm   Shift 2
3:00pm - 5:30pm     Shift 3
Drink and Lunch helpers

If your schedule doesn't allow for these times just let me know what you can do and I'll fit you in.

Please email me what you are willing to volunteer for.

Of course rain is forecasted for Saturday... but this is Michigan!  if it does rain we will push the work to the 17th.

THANKS!!!
Brian

BTW - a fencing company will be putting in the fence so we don't need volunteers for that.

Subject: Elliott Fields Update - Save the date(s)

Parents,
We are proceeding with the conversion of the two Elliott fields (#3 and #4) in April.  For those of you new to the program, the U10 teams have used two fields at the Jr. High in the past.  In an effort to get our all fields into one “complex” we obtained permission from Holt Schools and Delhi Parks and Rec to use the two fields in the north east corner at Elliott (Elliott #3 and #4).  This will help with our concessions and the ability to host tournaments in the future.  Plus with renovations should make the fields nicer than the fields at the Jr. High.

We originally were going to add minimal fencing just past the first and third base lines.  Due to all the generous donations from many of you we are able to put additional fencing in, all the way down the foul line plus enclosing the player benches.

For now, please save the date of April 16th and/or April 17th.  We will have some sod cut out to expand the fields and will need help removing that as well as spreading around new baseball dirt in those areas.  The alternate date in case of weather or unforeseen delays is the following weekend of April 23/24.

If anyone has a tamper machine please let me know!!

BTW - U10 teams will practice at the Jr. High fields during April.

I’ll send out more details the week of April 10th.

Thanks,
Brian Kayser, President

Uniform Distribution Day - April 23

Please mark your calendar!

We will have a Uniform Distribution Day on Saturday April 23rd from 10am - 4pm.

This year it will be at the Holt Junior High School in the Gym.

Each team will have an assigned 20 minute slot to arrive, try on pants and jerseys, and then checkout their uniform for the season.  Arrangements will be made for people that can't make it that day but we strongly encourage you to try to make it to ensure you get the best choice of sizes and jersey numbers.  It is also important to come at your assigned time, with your team, as there are a few different styles of jerseys and we want to try to make sure they all match for each particular team (and that there are no overlapping jersey numbers). If you can’t make the designated time slot, just come when you can but make sure you let the workers know you are on a different team.

Following are the assigned times for each team:

10:00 AM - HJRB Gold-U14 - Spencer Perales

10:20 AM - HJRB Gold-U12 - Bill Butterson

10:40 AM - HJRB Gold-U10 - Blair Darling

11:00 AM - HJRB Brown-U14 - Mike Rutledge

11:20 AM - HJRB D&M-U12 - Mike Denison

11:40 AM - HJRB Brown-U10 - Jason Hewitt

12:40 PM - HJRB Black-U14 - Tim Snyder

1:00 PM - HJRB Black-U12 - David Miranda

1:20 PM - HJRB Black-U10 - Jeff Booth

1:40 PM - HJRB White-U12 - Mark Coscarella

2:00 PM - HJRB White-U10 - Marc Johnson

2:20 PM - HJRB Blue-U12 - Brian Bunker

2:40 PM - HJRB Blue-U10 - Husulak & Levendoski

3:00 PM - HJRB Green-U12 - Jason Parks

3:20 PM - HJRB Green-U10 - Jeff Jenkins

3:40 PM - HJRB Orange-U10 - Steve Coon

Every team will have the button down jerseys!

You will be given the Jersey, pants, belt, socks and a fitted hat.

At the end of the season you must return the belt and the jersey.

If you ordered an extra pair of game pants you will pick those up on this day as well.

** We will be selling old pants from last year for $2 - $5 depending on what shape they are in.  These are great for practice pants.

HJRB Merchandise

HJRB Parents,

We sold a lot of HJRB merchandise last year that helped raise money for our program – thanks to all of you!!

We now have about 90 new families this year.  If you have not checked out our merchandise, please do so.  What better way to show your support for your Holt Jr. Rams Baseball players and program than by sporting HJRB logoed merchandise.  Let everyone know who you’re rooting for by wearing a Jr. Rams sweatshirt, polo shirt, or simply a t-shirt.

Your ball player may want to get a wicking t-shirt!  These stretchy shirts feel great (similar to Under Armour) and helps them stay warm when it’s cool and to stay cool and dry when it is hot by absorbing and “wicking” away the moisture.  We also have bat bags, batting helmets, and vehicle window stickers.

*** April is the bulk rush month for orders so please make sure to get your order in by April 27th to ensure you have it in time for the first pitch of the first game!! ***

Check out the store: http://hjrb.org/?page=merchandise.asp
